SandThraxx more

Easily known as one of the first of Sand Hollow's Toughest Trails, the challenge is often not even featured in other events due to it's extreme nature. This is where the big boys come to play. This trail should only be attempted by highly skilled drivers with something to prove to themselves or their buddies. Bring your camera's because you are sure to get some good footage. Be expected to roll and/or break. Sandthrax is gnarly.

Scenery

Towards east rim you drop into the canyon of Sandtrax. Look for wildlife in the area, or a cow or two that are grazing just below Molly’s Nipple.

Surface

Sand and sandstone obstacles that are cute, adorable, and flat out going to eat you for lunch if you don’t put your tires in the right lines.  Be prepared for rock rash, you’re going to get up close and personal with Sand Mountain.

Trail Details

The trail departs the fence line at the “green gate” and travels south toward East Rim. Take a left at the cattle guard and drop into the wash where you start SandThax.  There is a trail above SandThrax for those not wanting to push their limits on the trail.

The Trail covers a 900 foot elevation change in stages and steps of about 15 foot to 60 foot climbs and features 13 obstacles that are just down right fun!

Scenery

Beautiful views of Sand Hollow, Zion Park, Hurricane Cliffs, and Pine Valley Mountains.  Lots of incredible scenery within inches of your buggy! Once at the top of the trail, you can see just about every cool sight to the north.

TNT Extended more

This trail teeters on the edge of being buggy territory.  Very skilled drivers in heavily modified full-size rigs have successfully negotiated it, but few of them escaped body damage.   Many rigs have had big fails here.   While not as high rated as Arrowhead Canyon in the next canyon to the east, it still has plenty of adrenaline factor for buggies and heavily modified full body rigs.

Scenery

Pause to take in views of Sand Hollow Reservoir immediately to the south with Zion Park in the distance.  The usually snow-capped Pine Valley Mountains are to the west, and Hurricane Cliffs are to the east.

Surface

Slickrock canyons, wedges, and ledges.  Some sand hills.

Trail Details

TNT begins in a sandy wash by Sand Hollow Reservoir. Lower chain follows this wash.  It is full of obstacles that can get ugly real fast if you are not careful.  The wash narrows into a tricky series of falls and around a bend that requires maneuvering your rig by a massive boulder.  Then it opens up and you begin making your way out of the wash.  TNT presents just as many intimidating challenges to both the rig and its driver.  You will almost always receive some "love bites" from the rocks.  Rigs need to be, at a minimum, locked front and rear with at least 35" tires. Chain Reaction has an extremely high possibility of body damage and/or mechanical breakdown.

The Fallen more

::: The Fallen :::

This trail was built by a couple local Veterans who wanted to give back to their fallen brothers and sisters, with obstacles dedicated to fallen soldiers from each of the American Conflicts. The main trail is rated a HARD 8 with a couple obstacles at a 9 rating. However there is a shadow trail rated 6 right next to the main trail. If drivers and riders want to give certain obstacles a shot, they can jump in or out of the trail at any point. 10 plaques at 10 obstacles, The Fallen also has a memorial for anyone wishing to leave memories of their friends or family.

Scenery

The scenery is spectacular from almost every part of this run.  To the south, there are slickrock canyons with hoodoos and many rock formations.  Sand Hollow Reservoir lies just to the north, with Zion Park in the background.  The lower Hurricane Sand Dunes are just to the east, with Hurricane Cliffs in the background.  In the winter time, the Pine Valley Mountains to the west are usually capped with snow.

Surface

Most of the trail is on the slickrock, with some parts crossing sandy canyon bottoms.  The access and return routes are on bumpy sand trail.  The route from the top of the slickrock is via the Hurricane Sand Dunes, mostly downhill with a few dune climbs.

Trail Details

The Fallen has obstacles dedicated to fallen service members from the follow conflicts: World War 1, World War 2, Korea, Vietnam, Persian Gulf, Desert Storm, Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and a special obstacle dedicated to a specific service member from Utah that was also a wheeler. This trail can be fun for everyone with all sorts of skill levels and vehicles.

::: War Machine :::

Buggy Territory never has been so fun! This new trail has many difficult spots that could be made easier with Rear Steer, but has been done in several drag axles. Featuring Keilman’s Crack, The Minefield, and more; this trail starts near Iron Man and ends near Joint Effort.

Scenery

Ha! Is that what we are doing? Looking at scenery?! It’s there but not as cool as these new obstacles!

Surface

A mixture of sand, rocks, slickrock climbs, boulders, cracks, and huge holes.

Trail Details

War Machine is rated 10, but could easily have some spots that are more 11 rated. Better to have a winch, minimum of 39’s, and the expectation that body damage is likely. A fun trail that will take every bit of 4 hours with a good group if every obstacle is done.

Twister more

This is a new trail for 2022 and has drummed up quite and stir within the hardcore jeeping community. This extremely fun trail features a series of steep slicklock waterfalls with plenty of challenges.  The trail is known for being on the extreme side.

Most of the trail is newly developed so obstacles don't quite have names yet, however, it has been run by many groups of people all saying the same thing... "If you are not careful, you WILL end up with Body Damage". Please be prepared for a tough trail. This challenging trail is a lot of fun.  Be careful, and take the bypasses when you are not confident about an obstacle.

As a first year trail, we are limiting the number of vehicles to a STRICT 20 per tour.

Scenery

Arrowhead Canyon more

This is buggy territory!  The trail earns its rating with climbs up to the top of deep slot canyons with tires spanning both walls.  One slip here, and you will find yourself wedged with the cage on one wall and the tires against the other.  After a short drive on the sandy road along the Sand Hollow State Park, the wash to the south takes you up to bottom of the canyon, where the fun begins. The trail really doesn't go up the bottom of the canyon that much, it goes OVER the bottom of the canyon as you climb up above on the sidewalls.

Scenery

Beautiful views of Sand Hollow, Zion Park, Hurricane Cliffs, and Pine Valley Mountains.  Lots of incredible scenery within inches of your buggy!

Nasty Half more

Nasty Half is just that--nasty. This trail has earned its name and is full of intense climbs and steep waterfalls. It begins in a wash to the south of the dunes at Sand Hollow Reservoir.  The close proximity to the dunes creates a combined hazard of sand upon the slick red sandstone, challenging the skill of any driver.

Short mix of canyon, sand, and slots that can take all day to get through.

Scenery

Awesome scenery surrounds this trail.  The Hurricane Sand Dunes are along the east edge of Nasty Half.  Sand Hollow Reservoir is to the south, with Zion in the background.   view to the south is... the next big rock with sand on it!

Surface

Slickrock with sand.  Slot canyons and wide sandy canyon bottoms with steep sandhill climbs.

Trail Details

Nasty Half starts off with a tall vertical wall and doesn't let up until you find yourself flooring your way up the side of a sandy hill to resurface on the dunes. There are several undulating slots that require spanning and pose a big challenge trying to stay up and not tip over.

Many rigs have been known as "that rig" (you know, the one that is always breaking down) because there is almost always a guarantee of body damage and or mechanical failure. Rigs should be equipped with 2 lockers and a minimum of 37" tires.

Broken Chain more

This trail crosses Chain Reaction and directs drivers straight to full buggy territory.  Very skilled drivers in heavily fortified buggies have succeeded. With this being a NEW and difficult trail, we suggest that this is among the same type of difficulty as Arrowhead, but not as difficult as DeKleined. There are side obstacles that can make it more difficult than all over trails though... if you wanted to push it.  Many rigs have had big fails here.  This trail begins and ends at the bottom of the rock formations just to the south of Sand Hollow State Park.

Broken Chain begins in a sandy wash by Sand Hollow Reservoir and detours to the right out of Chain Reaction near the end of lower Chain. The first obstacle is a series of very difficult and tight obstacles that doesn't have any room between them for a break. Once cleared through the first 100 feet, you scale a huge crack and must navigate left across the crack and into another chute. The top of the chute is a good break area with flat parking that spectators can easily access. From there you drive to the hot tubs which is a series of basins formed by wind and water. This is where most rolls and breaks occur. Every bit of this trail is technical and fun. Stick the line and you're a hero, miss it... Well, you'll find out ;)

DeKleined more

The name comes from a noted buggy driver who, when he was introduced to this new trail, was declined on his first attempt.  Apparently, this is not usual, as he has lead trips on some of the most hardcore trails the southwest has to offer.  So, to poke a little fun at him, we named the trail after him... kinda!  Needless to say, this is the most difficult of the difficult.  Come prepared to be "DeKleined" by this trail.

KrawlZone TV's Quick Clip of the DeKleined Trail
https://youtu.be/pv5pzJwRClQ

Scenery

DeKleined is on the east hills above Sand Hollow Reservoir.  Great views of the reservoir and the red sand surrounding it.  To the southwest there are views of the many rock formations that hold most of the buggy trails run by Sand Hollow.  Behind the reservoir, you see the snow-packed peaks of Kolob and Pine Valley mountains.

Surface

Two-track sandy road from the Sand Hollow State Park to the trailhead.  Trail is mostly slickrock, with some sandy areas.  Return from the trail is via the same two-track.

Scenery

Nice high desert scenery, with some views of Sand Hollow Reservoir and Zion Park.

Surface

Sandy Roads for the first part, then steep slickrock waterfalls, then rocky gulches with steep waterfalls and ledges.
